My social action project was a non-perishable food drive where the learners could bring items such as canned foods, dry foods such as pasta and maize meal. The project was created to involve learners in the school.
Project Effectiveness
The project allowed for learner involvement as they brought the different items which were donated to a small home within the vicinity of the school. The impact it had on the learners is they were all keen to be involved as there were a lot of items donated and learners were confident about the items they brought to school. The effectiveness of this project relayed as it learners would continuously bring items through the week the food drive was in effect.
The impact the social action project had on me
The social action allowed me to take lead as being the only Intermediate phase student teacher and it allowed me to sharpen my communicative abilities as I was able to go around all the grades in the intermediate and senior phase. It provided me with the responsibility of keeping the items safe and making sure they were handed directly to the home that was receiving the items. This project had allowed me to develop my time management skills as I had to work around the other school work that was provided to us such as lessons and classroom management tasks to complete to understand the systems involved in the school.
The benefits of this initiative
This provides learners with the chance to connect with the community they in as they get to bring in items for donation. A social action project allows for the people involved to develop characteristics that can benefit when them once they have completed school such as kindness, gratitude and generosity.
A social action project such as a donation drive has many benefits as it allows for character development amongst the individuals involved.
I like the idea of non perishable foods . I think it opens up learners eyes to the everyday challenge that many people go through. I do agree with the fact that projects like this allow for character development and allows for learners to connect to the community. Overall I think your project had a huge impact on the community as well as the learners who were actively involved. I’m glad that it taught you new things too and grew you as a person.
